Climate

It is typical for the temperatures to be between 20°C and 21°C in the summer, but temperatures have occasionally reached over 30°C. The average temperature during the winter months is around 7°C.

Transportation

Jersey has more than 40 departure points spread across the British Isles, and 12 flights depart and arrive in London every day. Jersey also offers daily flights to various European destinations.

Jersey drives on the left-hand side of the road, just like the UK. The island's maximum speed limit is 40 mph (64 km/h). There are, however, lower speed limits on the roads, such as 20 or 30mph in built-up areas and 15mph in green lanes.

The central bus station is Liberation Station, located in St Helier. All buses have easy access for wheelchair users.

The bus stops are marked with posts and some have shelters on the side of the road. On the outer island routes, the 'BUS' sign is white and painted on the road. The timetables for each route can be found at each bus stop. A map of all routes is available at Liberation Station or on the site of liberty bus. Also, you can track where the buses are on their routes.

Many cycle routes are clearly marked throughout the parishes, along scenic routes leading through the countryside and along the coast. There are bike racks in St Helier and other surrounding parishes for you to park your bike.

From the airport, a taxi will typically cost you around £12 to £13 if you pre-book and £16 if you don't.

Depending on the time of the day and public holidays, public rank taxis and private booked cabs have different rates. There are currently no Uber or Lyft apps available on the island, but there are a number of local taxi apps available.

Parking in town costs around £0.82 per hour, but you can pay £132.40 per month for a season ticket which can be used in long stay car parks.

Cost of living

The maximum rate of personal income tax is 20%. Also, this rate applies to profits that are tax adjusted for sole traders and partnerships. There are no higher tax rates, capital gains taxes, or inheritance taxes. Goods and services are not subject to VAT in Jersey. This can make some purchases cheaper when you buy them in Jersey. Some online retailers will refund your VAT if it is delivered to Jersey when you order from them.

There are over 400 bars, restaurants, and cafes in Jersey. The drinking age in Jersey is 18. Pubs are open until 11pm and most bars and nightclubs are open until 2am.
